Courteney Woollands
Courteney Woollands is a fine art graduate based in Leeds, UK whose practice explores themes of sexuality, identity, and the darker facets of the human condition. Drawing inspiration from personal experience and pop culture, her work often blends psychological tension with visual intensity. Deeply influenced by artists such as Ken Currie and Francis Bacon, Courteney embraces the unsettling and the grotesque, using distorted figures and atmospheric high contrast compositions to provoke emotional response and reflection. Horror, both cinematic and symbolic, plays a key role in her creative process, allowing her to challenge traditional beauty and confront taboos surrounding the body and desire. Her work pays homage to these influences while also carving out a distinct voice rooted in vulnerability and defiance. Through painting and mixed media, she invites viewers into a space where discomfort meets curiosity, and where questions of sexuality and self are laid bare without apology.
